Mark Selby wins title of 2026 snooker China Open

Taiyuan: England's Mark Selby defeated Thailand's Noppon Saengkham 10-6 to claim the title of the 2026 World Snooker Tour China Open here on Sunday.

Saengkham pulled one frame back, but Selby staged a dramatic comeback to move 9-5 ahead. Saengkham then fought back again to cut the deficit to 9-6.

In the 16th frame, Selby regained his form with precise shot-making and eventually sealed a 10-6 victory to win the match and secure the title.

"Today's match was very important to my career. I also learned a lot from the experience. I will continue to work hard in training and hope to become a champion in the future," Saengkham said after the match.

"I am very happy to win this title in China. It was a tough match, and I haven't played amazing shots in the final, but I think I performed well throughout the tournament," Selby said.

Doha, Qatar: The Saudi senior national basketball team has arrived in Doha to begin its preparatory camp and participate in the international friendly tournament, featuring Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.

The competition will be staged from August 20 to 22 at Al Janoub Arena.

Saudi Arabia’s participation comes as part of its preparation program for the upcoming phase, particularly the next window of the FIBA Asia Qualifiers for the Basketball World Cup 2027.

Meanwhile, the Bahrain Basketball Federation has announced that its national team delegation will arrive in Doha on August 19.

The three-day tournament will open with Qatar facing Bahrain on Thursday at 7pm. On Friday, August 21, Bahrain will meet Saudi Arabia, before the competition concludes August 22, with the highly anticipated clash between Qatar and Saudi Arabia at 7:00pm.

The event holds particular importance for Qatar, who enter a decisive phase of their preparation program ahead of resuming its campaign in the FIBA Asia Qualifiers for the Basketball World Cup 2027.

In parallel with the qualifiers, Qatar are also preparing for participation in the Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 in Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4.

وتقوم تجربة «حيوه» على مفهوم بسيط ومباشر يتمثل في «اشتر.. احضر.. اكسب.. استبدل»؛ إذ يستطيع المستخدم استكشاف الفعاليات الرياضية المؤهلة عبر المنصة، والحصول على التذاكر وحضور الفعالية، ليتم بعد التحقق من حضوره إضافة نقاط «حيوه» إلى حسابه، حيث يحصل المستخدم على 1,000 نقطة عن كل فعالية رياضية مؤهلة وفق الشروط المعتمدة.

Cardiff: Arsenal powered to a 3-0 win against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, delivering a swaggering statement of intent ahead of their Premier League title defence.

Mikel Arteta's side used the annual curtain raiser to the English top-flight season as an opportunity to prove their long-awaited title triumph has done nothing to sate their appetite for success.

The Gunners took just 24 seconds to show new City boss Enzo Maresca the standard required to keep up with the champions.

Riccardo Calafiori's quick-fire opening goal was followed by a clinical Kai Havertz header before half-time.

Arsenal overwhelmed sloppy City with their trademark intensity and Martin Odegaard netted after the interval to cap a resounding victory.

The glamour friendly at Cardiff's Principality Stadium also allowed Arteta to parade Arsenal's close-season recruits.

Bruno Guimaraes, signed from Newcastle for £75 million ($101 million), slotted into midfield with ease, while Christos Tzolis, lured from Club Brugge for £34 million, gave a lively display including two assists.

The north Londoners will start a campaign as champions for the first time since the 2004-05 season.

Already installed as favourites to win their first successive English titles since the 1930s, Arsenal look primed for a sustained spell as the Premier League's preeminent force.

In his first showpiece occasion for City after his £116 million move from Nottingham Forest, England midfielder Elliot Anderson struggled to exert any influence.

City talisman Erling Haaland was largely anonymous, wasting two good chances in the first half.

Arsenal captain Odegaard showed his Norway teammate how to do it three minutes after half-time.

Tzolis rolled a pass into Odegaard's path and he slalomed through the City defence before leaving Donnarumma embarrassed with a clever dummy and close-range finish.

Only City, in 2019, have gone onto become Premier League champions among the previous 15 winners of the Community Shield.

On the evidence of their stroll in the Cardiff sunshine, Arsenal's 18th Community Shield victory won't be the last silverware lifted by Odegaard this season.
