Battlefield 6 toont zeeoorlogvoering voorafgaand aan de première van seizoen 4
Battlefield 6 heeft zijn vierde seizoen onthuld, dat helemaal draait om wat zeespray en zeelucht, vlak voordat je bukt om een regen van geweervuur te ontwijken, aangezien seizoen 4 zich richt op zeeoorlog. Een nieuwe kaart, nieuwe wapens, voertuigen en meer sieren de kust in dit nieuwe strandgebaseerde Battlefield Season, dat op 21 juli van start gaat.
Allereerst is er Tsuru Reef, de nieuwe map die in seizoen 4 verschijnt en volgens de ontwikkelaars het grootste slagveld tot nu toe. Het heeft uitgestrekte eilanden waar je op je voeten kunt vechten, evenals volop diepblauwe zee om in te verdwalen. Navigeer op de woelige zee met de RCB-90 Patrol Boat of de 7,7 m NSW RHIB. Er worden ook vier nieuwe wapens geïntroduceerd, waaronder het Interdictor sluipschuttersgeweer.
Later in het seizoen maakt ook Wake Island zijn langverwachte terugkeer. Natuurlijk is er ook een nieuw Ranked Battle Royale-seizoen om te klimmen, naast de extra content die deel uitmaakt van het nieuwe marineseizoen. Bekijk hieronder de gameplay-trailer:

HWMonitor now shows you thermal hotspot data for RTX 50-series graphics cards, so I thought I'd give one of ours a quick test
Hot off the news that repair shops have gained access to leaked internal Nvidia tools to gather RTX 50-series hotspot data, CPUID's HWMonitor has added its own hotspot thermal tracking info in the latest update.
Version 1.65 adds two hotspot sensor data rows within the graphics card column for RTX 50-series cards, right underneath the traditional GPU and memory average temperature data. This should make it easier for users to diagnose whether their card is suffering from dried out thermal paste and pads, or a mis-contacted cooler.
The hotspot temperature will naturally be higher than the regular GPU temp reading under load, so don't panic if you see some elevated figures. Personally, I'd only become concerned if the hot spot temps were alarmingly high, combined with the GPU cooler fans spinning like a small tornado and the gaming performance dropping like a stone.
All that being said, I gritted my teeth and decided to check out the Asus TUF Gaming RTX 5070 Ti OC Edition's hotspot temps while running Crimson Desert at 4K with path tracing enabled, just to give myself a worst-case scenario. Oh, and there's a heatwave on in the UK at the moment, and my house has no air conditioning. Perfect test conditions!
As you can see from the results below, while the GPU sat comfortably at around 62-63 °C on average, HWMonitor recorded a brief hotspot spike into the mid-80s, although settled down to a 75-80 °C temp afterwards.
I'm fairly comfortable with that, as I've benched this card many times and its performance is right in line with other RTX 5070 Ti data we have to hand. It's quiet as a mouse, too. Should the hotspot temps ever soar off into the stratosphere, though, I'll be having the cooler off in a heartbeat to check out the conditions underneath.
The devs behind CapFrameX, a very useful free performance monitoring utility, have also announced that RTX 50-series hotspot temps will be coming to its tracking features soon. So hey, more ways to keep an eye on your machine. And let's face it, we all like a bit of PC hardware watching, don't we?

Gamescom-bezoekers zijn vaak gewend om exclusieve demo's te krijgen voorafgaand aan hun bredere release, en Eclipse Glow Games geeft mensen die volgende maand naar de Koelnmesse komen de kans om hun aankomende actiegame Tides of Annihilation te proberen.
Na Gwendolyn, een overlevende van een buitenaardse invasie die Londen nog rommeliger achterlaat dan het nu is, nemen spelers het op tegen gigantische, krachtige vijanden in een gevecht dat eruitziet als een mix van hack-and-slash met Soulslike-elementen. Je kunt zelf beoordelen hoe Tides of Annihilation speelt, want het spel is hands-on beschikbaar van 26 tot 30 augustus in Hall 6 (de enorme) B-050.
Hopelijk betekent dit dat Tides of Annihilation een wat sterke aanwezigheid zal hebben op Gamescom Opening Night Live, waar we een releasedatum of venster voor het spel kunnen krijgen. Op dit moment zegt het alleen dat het binnenkort komt, maar dat kan tegen het einde van volgende maand veranderen. Aangezien de rest van 2026 en zelfs begin 2027 vol met games lijken te zitten, is het niet verrassend dat Tides of Annihilation heeft gewacht met het vaststellen van de releasedatum.
