It was another day of mixed results for the Indian badminton contingent at the ongoing Indonesia Open Super 1000 2026. As the Round of 16 concluded, India’s singles campaign came to a close with the heartbreaking exits of PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty at the iconic Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

Providing a massive silver lining to the day at the Super 1000 event, the men’s doubles pair of Arjun MR and Hariharan Amsakarunan produced an impressive performance to keep India’s hopes alive.

Facing Malaysia’s Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing, the Indian duo dropped the opening game 16–21. Refusing to back down, they clawed their way back in the second with controlled aggression to win 21–15, forcing the match into a decider.

The deciding game did not begin in their favour as they struggled against the Malaysians’ powerful smashes and deceptive drop shots, trailing 8–11 at the mid-game interval. After the change of ends, they staged a remarkable comeback, winning four consecutive points to draw level at 12–12 before carrying the momentum forward. Hari and Arjun closed out the game 21–19.

With this win, Hariharan and Arjun secured their maiden quarter-final appearance at the Super 1000 level. Up next, they will face another Malaysian duo, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin.

Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu was outmanoeuvred by top seed and World No. 1 An Se-young of South Korea, falling 17–21, 15–21 in straight games. Sindhu’s winless run against the Korean now extends to ten matches.

Meanwhile, Ayush Shetty lost against Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu. Ayush got off to a good start, taking the first game 21–16. However, Lee adjusted his strategy, exploiting Shetty’s defensive weaknesses to take the next two games 21–13, 21–14.
